My dorkdom is complete. Verizon offered me a free upgrade of my phone to ... A BATPHONE. How could I say no to my very own, free Batphone? Plus it comes with a text message service which my sad, old phone did not. The day is looking up.

11:11 am - crack monkeys!
Got an email from my mother: Dad's school got bought out, and the new owners are doing interviews to see whom they will re-hire and beneficently allow to stay. Because teachers aren't in short supply right now or anything. So Dad's been there since 1974, doing shite work, because he's one of those strange, ethical-types who want to educate the masses. (And constantly tells me education is a terrible field - get out while you can.)
So they tell him yesterday that he can stay on if he takes a $15,000.00 pay cut. Serious whiskey tango foxtrot there. That's not an offer when you make $42,000 a year. That's a slap in the face. Even intro-level, fresh-outta-school kiddies make as much if not more than that. Needless to say, Dad is bummed.
He went and talked to them this morning when he got to work, and they agreed to bump him only $5,000 instead. Dad's trying to weedle them back up to $42K, but they said they'd "look into" it. Which isn't a promising thing, but it's nice that they're not being complete dicks about it. And I send them a couple hundred bucks every month, so that should help some if Dad isn't making as much. Mum will be sad, though, cause it means she'll have to go back to work. She was soooo happy to retire, too.

Storm has gotten me thinking... I should look into the pre-med REQUIREMENTS for other schools. I've only been considering IU's rec-courses in my semester planning. Phoo.
In happier news, it's aaaalmost time for diagram-o-rama! Great dorky fun will be had. Of course, I must study for my midterm after that. But there will be a celebratory trip up to Indy this weekend for Batman at the IMAX!

11:02 am - ramblings of a student
Thoughts on school that need to be put into order. I was accused of not telling people of my devious plots to change majors. Whoops. So here I am, world, telling you - or at least the people on IJ - that as of next semester, I plan on switching to pre-med. Fun times. In order to get financial aid, I have to be at least half-time. In order to be able to pay rent, I have to work full time. So this means that I will be cramming 2 classes around my work schedule every semester for the next three years. (Two for the pre-med classes, and one more to take my MCAT and apply to med schools.)
People out there in the world! Suggestions on good medical schools around the country? I'm being told Harvard is nice. Visited Stanford with Storm, and it looks fabulous - don't know if the heat and I would get along, though. IUPUI is cheap and nearby, so that's a total bonus. ... And Iron Man just came on my radio. I'm a happy panda. ^___^ Uh, schools. Hunter suggested Cornell. But those are the obvious ones! Any suggestions for the less obvious?

I thought that Tom Brokaw was going to choke a bitch! Just reach across his little table and slap one (or both) of them, thrust them in the direction of the lights, and ask if they were blind in addition to being incapable of answering a direct question.

I love messing with one of my coworkers. He's a wonderful guy and a giant dork. Because the person he shares his office with is out for the month on her honeymoon, he put a big sign on his door proclaiming the office the "Fortress of Solitude". On my way out from my office to class this morning, I ducked in and placed a placard on his desk with a print of Lex Luthor stating that his Fortress had been compromised [insert maniacal laughter here].
The things we do at work to keep sane. ^_^

In order to keep up with all the news that is news, I've made a second journal over here. We shall see how it goes! Expect a few delays in updating as it's almost bedtime, and this coming week is going to be challenging.
